CHILD CARE 25

The Biggest Issue Facing Single Women Who Go In For Ivf Treatment Is Being Able To Cope With Single Parenthood Financially, Practically And Emotionally. However , Even In The Short Term There Are Some Particular Issues That Single Women Need To Think About. One Is Organizing A Support Network. You May Have A Close Friend Involved In Your Treatment, Coming To Consulations, Scans And Egg Collections. If Not You May Want To Ask Someone At Least To Collect You From Hospital When Necessary, Or To Provide Comfort If Treatment Does Not Work. Ivf Can Be A Lonely Experience At The Best Of Times, And Even More Isolating If The Clinic Is Geared Up To Dealing With Couples And You Are On Your Own.
We Booked Our First Treatment Cycle, Then Arranged To Go On Holiday Abroad. People Had Warned Us The Treatment Was Stressful, And We Thought It Would Be A Good Idea To Start It Feeing Fresh. Before We Left My Husband Had His Tests And They Showed He Had An Infection So He Went On A Course Of Antibiotics Which Cleared It Up. Then My Swabs Showed I Had An Infection Not Very Surprising So I Had To Go On Antibiotics Too.
When We Returned From Holiday I Went Back For Another Swab. At That Point The Nurse Said That If The Infection Did Not Clear Up Treatment Would Be Delayed. Because Even Small Amounts Of Bacteria Breed Furiously In Laboratory Conditions And Mess Up The Fertilization Process. This Possibility Had Not Been Mentioned Before And I Felt Really Depressed.
I Phone Up On The Third Day And Discovered That I Now Had Two Infections One A Side Effect Of The First Antibiotics So It Was Unlikely I Would Be Able Even To Start Treatment. It Was Incredibly Depressing After All The Waiting And Planning And I Got A Splitting Headache.
